04 / AN HONEST PERSPECTIVE

Good journeys start
with better context.

Sargassum is part of the Caribbean’s changing seascape. This guide helps compare seasons and regions, while leaving room for what only a recent beach check can tell you.

MODEL 0.1.0 · UPDATED 2026-09-02
Where do these numbers come from?

We multiply a fixed monthly pressure value by an editorial exposure weight for each destination, divide by 100, and round. These are illustrative assumptions, not measured or scientifically calibrated probabilities. The source links below provide background; they do not publish these scores.

70 month × 92 coast ÷ 100 = 64

Zero exposure weights are reserved for inland places and displayed as not applicable. Coastal scores do not account for a hotel’s cleanup operations.

Does this show the beach today?

No. This version has no live satellite feed or dated beach observations. Choosing an exact date changes the selected month and the practical checking advice, not the model’s seasonal values. The same month has the same baseline in every year.

How should I check before travelling?

Review current regional bulletins, then contact your hotel 24–72 hours before arrival. Ask for a dated photograph of your exact beach section and whether collection or barriers are operating. Nearby beaches can look different on the same day.
